The Mars Odyssey orbiter had to successfully complete a "burn" to be captured by the gravity of Mars when it arrived. I creadate this image for possible use during the orbiter's Mars Orbit Insertion (MOI) Guest Ops at JPL on Oct. 23, 2001. It was not used, however. The Russian Space Agency's HEND instrument was onboard Odyssey, so the US flag was an error. In fact, HEND is the white instrument visible on Odyssey. But I love the stars and stripes version, personally.
